Waking from a midsummer night's dream, your back is damp with sweat. A strange current brings a chill, tempting you back to sleep—yet abruptly, you find yourself in a desert cave, where morphing colours crowd the stone walls. Local indie band Ngaiman’s latest EP, Psychedelic Eton Mess, is an invitation to an Eastern exotic realm, with its ticket enveloped in Western psychedelic rock. Aboard this sonic rollercoaster, it is impossible to tell whether you are frantically riding a mythical cloud or the fluffy cream of the British dessert itself. Welcomed by layers of trippy synth, the guitar texture displays immense versatility, unpredictably gliding into the likeness of traditional Chinese instruments. Strong, tight drum beats echo with the sonorous female vocal like a mouthful of sweet delights. This EP is short, but its rich arrangement guarantees a sweat-drenched, refreshing good trip.

When discussing the post-rock movement in the post-2000 Mandarin music scene, Taiwanese indie legends 8mm sky’s 2006 debut, finders keepers, is a timeless classic cherished by countless listeners. With its breezy, shimmering guitar lines and low, beautifully detached vocals, the album perfectly encapsulates the melancholy, bitterness, and fleeting brilliance of youth. It ultimately leaves behind one of the most radiant and tender marks in Taiwan's independent music history.

Nothing went six years between records. Over that time, the weight of touring, injuries and daily life slowly settled into a short history of decay. The distorted guitars remain heavy, while acoustic guitar, piano, brass, harp and strings surface through the noise, lending the band's shoegaze a baroque-pop and doom-pop cast. The album takes its title from the book of the same name by Romanian-born philosopher Emil Cioran; founder Domenic Palermoabc carries the band's fifteen-year history in his body and memory. The wall of sound hasn't receded — decayons wears more faces.
