Skee Mask and North Americans turn unfinished guitar recordings into Final Circle, while Hong Kong singer-songwriter Serrini releases the digital edition of 小心女星 alongside her Album Con project. The Weeknd's Faye Wong-sampling "Hong Kong" reaches streaming services. Elsewhere, upsammy and Piezo, Dark Paradise Records, Ahn Dayoung, Atrice and Jeff Mills release collaborations, complete records and previously unavailable archive material.
▍Skee Mask and North Americans release Final Circle, built from unfinished guitar recordings
Skee Mask and North Americans released Final Circle through City Slang on 30 October. The five-track collaboration brings German electronic producer Bryan Müller together with Los Angeles guitarist Patrick McDermott, using recordings that had not originally been intended for a shared release.
According to the label's account, the pair first met playing Call of Duty: Warzone with other musicians and producers. Müller subsequently suggested making music and asked McDermott to send rough, unusual and unfinished material. The resulting folder included acoustic guitar recordings accumulated between 2017 and 2023, much of it made at home in Los Angeles, alongside ideas left behind in earlier sessions.
Those fragments supplied common ground for two projects associated with different musical practices: Skee Mask's electronic production and North Americans' guitar work. All five tracks have numerical date titles, beginning with "05012023" and ending with "30122021". The complete digital release is available now, with vinyl and cassette editions also offered through the official Bandcamp page.
▍Serrini releases 小心女星 digitally, alongside an illustrated-book and Album Con project
Hong Kong singer-songwriter Serrini released the digital edition of 小心女星 on 31 October. The Rinaland release contains sixteen tracks and runs for approximately fifty-nine minutes. The project also included The Bright Star Album Con, scheduled at MacPherson Stadium in Mong Kok on 30 October. Tickets for that dedicated album show had gone on sale in September.
The record has an illustrated-book edition too. Rinaland's presentation names songs including "垃圾女星", "掌心的女孩", "流行病" and "餘地", placing the book and the recorded songs within the same project. The digital edition's "隨處惹塵埃" was composed by Christopher Chak, with lyrics by Serrini and arrangement and production by Frankie Yip. Its credits list drums, bass, guitar and piano.
Following the earlier individual songs, the digital release now makes the complete issued sequence available to listeners. The sixteen-track count refers specifically to that edition; the illustrated physical edition has been promoted with a different track count.
The Weeknd's "Hong Kong (feat. 王菲季候風)" reached streaming services over the weekend. First performed at Kai Tak Stadium on 24 October, it uses the existing music and Cantonese vocals from Faye Wong's 1993 song "季候風". This week's development is the digital release, rather than the concert premiere or a newly recorded duet.
The official audio credits The Weeknd, Oscar Holter and Sage Skolfield in production roles. The recording is credited to The Weeknd XO Music ULC, marketed by Republic Records. Release coverage identifies East and Southeast Asia as its streaming territories and credits the artwork photograph to Christopher Doyle's private Hong Kong collection, extending the city's presence beyond the sample itself.
▍upsammy and Piezo release their first Eerie Enterprise album
upsammy and Piezo released the nine-track Places Remember Events through Dekmantel on 30 October under their shared name, Eerie Enterprise. The collaboration began with two days of hardware-based studio improvisation in July 2024. Thessa Torsing and Luca Mucci initially had no finished product in mind, then developed the sketches into an album.
Both wrote and produced the record, with mixing by Anton Pieete and mastering by Rashad Becker. It follows their separate collaborative projects, upsammy's Seismo with Valentina Magaletti and Piezo's PPP with DJ Plead and DJ Python. Dekmantel also confirms that the pair have developed an Eerie Enterprise live set.
▍Dark Paradise Records releases K9, a seven-track collection of collaborations
Taiwanese electronic label Dark Paradise Records has released its ninth compilation, 派樂黛K9 未確認動物, digitally and on CD. Its seven tracks include Oberka and Korean rapper BLNK's "Shake for That Ghost", BIGYUKI and BadCatSociety's "Dreams" with YELLOW, and Ń7ä's "IS GOOD" with ABAO and Brandy.
"Shake for That Ghost" appeared on 13 October; this week's news is the complete compilation. The label's account explains that Oberka and BLNK tried different beats before choosing Brazilian funk as their starting point. The visual project involves ceramic artist 謝佳瑜 and visual director 許凱廸, bringing another artistic collaboration into the record's packaging.
▍Ahn Dayoung releases the seven-track EP crumbscrumbs
Korean musician Ahn Dayoung released crumbscrumbs (산산의 부스러기) through Magic Strawberry Sound on 29 October. In her accompanying notes, she describes stepping back from anxiety and exhaustion, spending time in mountains and by the sea. The fragments left through making music became guides rather than proof of reaching a final destination.
Dayoung produced and directed the EP. Its seven tracks include "Surely", "2km" and "Bows", with dress sharing the arrangement of "2km". Her credits encompass guitar, keyboards, synthesisers, Mellotron and programming. Lee Eunho directed the official video for "Surely", providing a visual entry into the project.
▍Atrice release debut album Default Settings on Ilian Tape
Swiss duo Atrice released the digital edition of Default Settings through Ilian Tape on 29 October. The twelve-track debut was written, produced and mixed by the pair, with mastering by Tangible Air. It opens with "Bath Tube" and ends with "underneath"; a double twelve-inch edition is also available.
Atrice's background spans composition, music theory and sound art, alongside organising and releasing music through the MIRAS collective. Their label biography places their work between manipulated sound sources and club forms including UK bass, deconstructed club, techno, dembow and ambient. The album extends their earlier Ilian Tape releases into a longer format.
Jeff Mills released Gamma Rays (c.1995) through Axis Records on 30 October. Its four tracks, "i4", "i8", "i6" and "i2", were made for the film and audio recording of his 1995 Live at the Liquid Room DJ mix in Tokyo. Axis says the recordings were finalised on quarter-inch reel-to-reel tape and subsequently remained unreleased.
Made around the same time as "i9", the material also overlaps with Mills' initial work for Purpose Maker. Available on twelve-inch vinyl and digitally, the EP makes individual recordings from that period accessible. It is neither a newly recorded album nor a reissue of the complete Liquid Room performance.
▍Dekmantel Selectors announces its complete 2027 programme
Dekmantel Selectors announced its complete programme on 27 October, ahead of 19–23 August 2027 in Tisno, Croatia. The bill includes Marcel Dettmann and Ryan Elliott together, plus O Ghettão live from Príncipe Discos. Daily boat parties also form part of the programme.
