Description

"Dried pampas grass swayed everywhere in the breeze. Weak sunlight touched the drooping heads of the grass, making them glisten faintly. While the low mountains at the edge of the fields remained hazy, a patch of blue opened in the distant sky, revealing the shimmering white snow on the far peaks." Since their formation in Tokyo in 1999, MONO has captured the hearts of music lovers worldwide with their poetic post-rock narratives. With 12 full-length albums and numerous film scores to their name, they have performed over 600 shows in more than 300 cities to date. In recent years, MONO has further expanded their creative horizons by incorporating orchestral arrangements into both their studio recordings and live performances, venturing into the realm of modern classical. Their work has reached #2 on the Billboard Classical Crossover Albums chart, solidifying a unique position within the post-rock pantheon. MONO’s aesthetic stands alone—stretching and deconstructing melodies within the interplay of silence and noise to create cinematic, immersive soundscapes. A fundamental part of MONO’s unmistakable sound was their longtime production partner and friend, Steve Albini. Following Albini’s tragic passing in 2024, MONO was faced with profound grief and uncertainty. In their sorrow, they enlisted Albini’s longtime friend, Brad Wood, to produce their new album, Snowdrop. The album carries an extraordinary air of gratitude for a dear friend. Featuring a 10-piece orchestra and an 8-piece choir, the music turns a profound sense of loss into light and hope, looking toward the possibilities of the future. The song titles incorporate the "language of flowers" dedicated to those who have passed, filling the void of grief with resonant beauty. On July 12, 2026, MONO will return to Hong Kong for the seventh time, bringing this deeply significant new work to the stage. NEON LIT invites you to Whampoa TIDES to fully immerse yourselves in the emotions and sonic power MONO has cultivated over the past two years. "Without exception, everyone will eventually depart this world and face the parting from their loved ones. Through this album, we wished to express our "eternal gratitude" to those precious people who walked alongside us on the journey of life. We believe this sentiment is the only thing capable of filling the void left in our hearts and easing the profound sorrow and pain of loss. Every flower carries its own unique language. For this album, we incorporated the messages imbued in flowers given to those who have passed into the titles of our songs. Our hope is that this album serves as a source of light and hope for those who have lost someone dear." Inquiry: business@neon-lit.com
